HSE has published an updated version of its key guidance booklet on how to comply with the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992.
Known as L23, the booklet has been simplified and restructured into four colour-coded parts, with the regulations and brief guidance in part 1 and more detailed guidance on how to carry out risk assessments and control risks in parts 2-4. The appendix contains risk filters for identifying tasks that do not require a detailed assessment, and explains how HSE’s manual handling assessment tools (known as MAC and RAPP) can be used as part of the risk assessment process. Examples of full risk assessment checklists are available separately online.
