Learner spotlight – Daniel Mee

BACK 14-08-2024

Today we are celebrating learner success, with Daniel Mee, our floorlaying apprentice who has successfully completed his apprenticeship with WEBS!

Daniel completed with a well-deserved distinction on 8th July and was awarded Apprentice of the Month for his overall commitment to his skills development over the course of his apprenticeship.

Daniel Mee - 2-time Apprentice

His Training Officer, Helen Davies, says:

“Daniel was quite a challenge at first, due to his strong-willed nature. But once I got to know him more, he quickly became the most engaged and focused apprentice I have seen during my time at WEBS. He was keen to complete his work and always wanted to add more. He really has been the most astute student I’ve had – whenever there was a problem, he worked hard to make it right - and he always wanted to get it right.”

He is WEBS’ only two-time apprentice of the month – in December 2023 he was also awarded Apprentice of the Month due to the quality work he had completed for his portfolio.

With Daniel’s fantastic progression in his course, it seemed only right for him to be submitted for the CFA Flooring Apprentice of the Year 2024.

With one of the judges stating, “Daniel has presented an excellent portfolio of work, his case study clearly demonstrates the variety of work and sites he has worked, at the same time, showing himself hard at work”, Daniel was awarded Highly Commended status, and achieved a fantastic third place.

On his experience as an apprentice, Daniel shares:

“I found my flooring apprenticeship to be amazing offering me valuable experience with a perfect blend of theoretical knowledge and hands-on practice. The practical lessons were particularly enjoyable, allowing me to apply various flooring techniques and gain confidence in my skills.

Coming third in the CFA flooring apprentice of the year competition was a proud moment reflecting a lot of hard work I had put in during my time on the apprenticeship and showing my dedication to learn the trade. Being named the WEBS apprentice of the month twice was also a proud achievement, further motivating me to excel in my apprenticeship and to continue working towards being the best fitter I can be after qualification.”

He continues his employment following his apprenticeship at Hillside Contracts in Leicester, where director Jo Singer has added: “We are really pleased with Danny’s progress so far.  He has completed his flooring apprenticeship in just over a year and gained distinction in all areas. Danny has a natural ability to become a very good floor layer, and we look forward to continuing his training to help him achieve this and hope he will work with us for many more years to come.”

It is clear that Danny has a bright career ahead of him, and it is wonderful to be able to share his success story.

All the best Daniel, everyone at WEBS wishes you the most successful career in Floorlaying!
