Have you thought about planning ahead for your apprentices?
We attended Chilwell School's career fair on Wednesday 20th November to promote apprenticeships in the furniture and interiors industries. This was Chilwell School’s first career event of this kind and was for school leavers in September 2025 – for both 16- and 18-year-olds.
It was a great event with lots of engagement at all the stands – with options for armed forces, university, along with apprenticeships available – including WEBS for furniture and interiors.
We had good engagement from students, who liked the idea of being able to make something themselves, and that the work is based on attitude and a practical mindset without the pressures of achievement in traditional academia.
We need employers so that we can provide apprenticeships for school-leavers
WEBS can only place apprentices if there is a job role available for them – so it is important that businesses consider now if they would like an apprentice school-leaver as students are already actively planning what they would like to do when they finish in the summer. If businesses wait until September, or even the summer, to recruit then most school-leavers will already have their post-school arrangements made.
