Max Shortland, of Gordon Ellis & Co., is coming up to the end of his Level 3 apprenticeship for Bespoke Furniture Maker.
He was nominated for his final project for his apprenticeship, along with his workplace achievement of reaching the regional finals for the Make UK awards.
After researching different styles of furniture, Max decided he wanted to make a tambour door TV cabinet for his final project. He managed to see examples of these in person when visiting the January Furniture Show as part of his course, and with support from training officer Craig Martin, completed prototypes and then produced a fantastic final project piece.
On the final piece, made with solid oak, no screws, and a linseed oil finish, Craig has given both Max and his work great feedback. “The project was one of the more complex designs that has been completed as part of the Level 3 course – he has pushed himself more than most people on the course. The end result was great, where the design wouldn’t look out of place in a retailer or in someone’s home”
Max is very enthusiastic about his work and has already shown an interest in further development – particularly in product design where he can hone the skills he has learned even further.
Separate from his work at WEBS, Max also entered into the Make UK awards, where he reached the regional finals for his contribution as an apprentice to his workplace.
