Recruiting an Apprentice

Why recruit an Apprentice?

Recruiting apprentices enables employers to fill the skills gaps that exist within their current workforce as apprentices begin to learn sector specific skills from day one; developing specialist knowledge that will positively affect your bottom line.

In addition to eager, motivated staff who are committed to on the job training and development, industry research has highlighted numerous direct and indirect benefits of Apprenticeships for both recruiting new apprentices and for training your workforce:

86% of employers said apprenticeships developed skills relevant to their organisation and 78% reported improved productivity.

Other benefits that apprenticeships contribute to your organisation include:

  • 90% of apprentices stay on in their place of work after completing an apprenticeship
  • there's a wide selection of apprenticeships available, covering lots of different job roles
  • you can adapt the training your apprentice receives according to the needs of your organisation
  • an apprenticeship allows you to diversify and freshen up your workforce
  • you can employ an apprentice who's aged 16 up to any age and from any background

How long is an Apprenticeship?

Apprenticeships can last from 12 months up to 4 years depending on levels undertaken and complexity. Apprentices working towards a new apprenticeship standard at Level 2 will have opportunities to progress to Level 3.  Apprentices will be observed throughout the programme for the acquired knowledge, skills and behaviours needed for competency.

How WEBS can support you.

WEBS was set up in the sixties by furniture firms in and around Long Eaton to train young people entering the industry, so we have a proud history of over 50 years of training & apprenticeship delivery. Former WEBS apprentices have gone on to have very successful careers, some setting up furniture manufacturing businesses of their own, or becoming senior managers in some very prestigious companies. Some have decided to come back to WEBS as training officers and now share their wealth of expertise with other young people to ensure they get all the support they need to become successful and valued members of your team.

We are the only specialist furniture trade training provider in the Midlands. We have been actively involved in the discussions and development around the new standard apprenticeships, so you can be assured that what we are delivering meets the latest requirements within the industry. We pride ourselves in building lasting business relationships in order to deliver the training required for you as your business develops over time.

In addition to the apprenticeship training and support, we will help you to find the apprentice that’s right for you. Our Business Development Manager will work closely with you to identify what you need your recruit to do and the type of person best suited to match those requirements. Our recruitment team will use this information in the recruitment process.

By working together we can help your apprentice to successfully achieve their apprenticeship and for you to develop a fully qualified and professional workforce.
